A former gravel extraction site that has been landfilled and landscaped. Its main feature is the hill that gives it its name and which hosts a mountain bike course.
The plateau at the top is rich in flowering plants and provides good views across the large reedbeds of the Ingrebourne Marshes SSSI. Bitterns occasionally winter there and marsh harriers are often seen flying across looking for prey.
Visiting
Access from the south off Rainham Road (A125), north of Dovers Corner (junction with A1306); or from the north via Hornchurch country park. SatNav: RM13 8ST.
About 1km walk down Suttons Lane from Hornchurch station (District Line tube). Frequent bus services run to both entrance roads from Rainham, Hornchurch and Romford.
